Snickerdoodles

So, a kiddo wanted to make snicker doodles (It's like we enjoy cookies or something). I don't make them very often, but it seems like when I used to make them the dough was your ordinary dough that you could roll into a ball. The last time I made them, the dough was super sticky and was very challenging to roll into a ball. So I wrote on the recipe to using the old standby from the Betty Crocker cookbook. I used that recipe this time - and it was sticky again! If I add too much more flour, they don't taste as good. I don't know if I'm perpetually doing something wrong or if I need a better recipe. I would love to hear your suggestions to improve my snicker doodle situation!

My suggestion is to toss your old recipe and start with a new recipe with rave reviews from Allrecipes.com, and to bring some over to my house while they're still warm! ;)

Next time I'll have to try a new recipe. To finish off the dough we already had, we dropped a spoonful of dough in the cinnamon-sugar mix and rolled it into a ball in there. It worked a lot better. Sorry we didn't bring you any, they don't last long in our house :)

Okay, so you inspired me to make some of my own, and they didn't turn out so hot either, or I would have brought some over! Most of the snickerdoodle recipes on Allrecipes.com call for shortening, which I didn't have on hand, but I think that's what keeps them soft and yummy. Stay away from the recipe that calls for butter. :(

That's good to know. I'll continue the quest for a better recipe or just use a spoon instead of rolling them into balls.
